Science Ninja Team Batgirl by Daystorm Science Ninja Team Batgirl by Daystorm
Done for Project Rooftop's Batgirl Redesign contest, this one's inspired by the Science Team Gatchaman anime series costumes. Once again, incorporating a hard helmet for noggin protection, since our intrepid heroine is a fragile human being. I went for an asymmetrical design for the rest of the outfit, though, and tweaked the color scheme a bit, for a bit softer feel than some of the other versions in the comics and animation.

The cape also harkens back to the Gatchaman cape stylings.

Never would have thought eastern and western superhero stylings could mash up so well!  Excellent work.  The asymmetry is a bit jarring for the Bat-family, but it fits the Gatchaman influence.

Thanks! Hopefully, despite the asymmetry, it's still balanced. The one element I'm not super happy with is the piping at the top of the boots and the glove fingers. They're a little distracting, I think.

I don't mind it so much at the top of the boots, but I do agree that it distracts from the otherwise sleek look on the gloves.  The eye slit-less helmet is a great and different look, and the gloves should probably complement that aesthetic.

*LOVE* the placement of the emblem/logo and the cape following it. And the lines of the boots.

I am usually very particular about symmetry, but this has opened my mind to the design possibilities.

Great design!

Glad you like it! Yeah, a little asymmetry can help make designs more dynamic. Designs can be asymmetrical without being unbalanced.

Of course, now when an editor wants to horizontally flip your panel, it's much more difficult! ;-)

Good thing I'm just a hobbyist! Also, they do it all the time in movies and most people don't notice, so probably okay.

Looking good, mate. I really like the Gatchaman style you went with.
Very well done.
Cheers.
